Your first company is super important for your career. Mine was Infosys where I learned a lot of important lessons that still guide me. For eg
Coding is just 30% of software development, literally. If a dev would take 1 day to build something, we would give an estimate of 3 days for delivery.
A good process rocks. A bad process should not be allowed to exist and MUST be replaced
People who look super incompetent may actually be rock stars in other aspects. A dev in our team who everyone rooted against became an MVP in the team once the manager offered him to play on his strength testing. was the onsite lead and this person saved so much time for us that his name became synonymous with quality. I was sometimes tempted to deploy directly if he signed off.
Work is not the most important thing for many people in life and that’s OK
There are great managers and there are really terrible ones. Great managers make you stick. The main reason I stuck around for so long was because of my awesome manager Samar aka Shashi
Bad managers are great teachers of what not to do. I still remember the times when one such manager did not treat me and my colleagues well and vowed to never do that if I became one.
What you care about as a dev is very different from what users care about… My first lessons in product management
Patience in building something pays off
Team >individual always
Talented Assholes should be avoided at all costs. A lesson I keep learning again and again
One of the biggest factors for talented people leaving is fairness, perceived or real
Trust is built by a series of incidents but broken by just one
Sexism at work is mostly invisible to men unless someone points it out(usually another woman). Regular training and reminders are effective and still necessary.. hopefully, one day they won’t be
Pitching team members against each other in reviews is the worst thing you can do. The bell curve is one of the biggest motivation killers
Many people are questioning why the writers etc did not return the awards in 1984..Fair
But why is nobody asking why they did not do that in 2002?
That part of history is something no one want’s to acknowledge anymore….did not happen..by talking about it you would be forced to talk about how the people in power organized it and executed it. You would be forced to acknowledge the bribes and cover ups that were attempted, successful some unsuccessful…
And that is what we are not comfortable with…that demon is not to be touched….Also oh wait there was also a BJP govt at both center and state….
On a side note: Someone suggested Why did they not return when terrorist attacks happened?…What do you mean? They return the award to make a point to Terrorists? Or do you mean that the current govt and the terrorists are basically at the same pedestal ..
About 1 year ago I saw an NGO(Help Us to Help the Child (H.U.H.C.)Β copying my blog article on their home page without permission or attribution .
Since it was an NGO I decided to be patient . If they had shown the basic courtesy of asking for permission, I would have given it but since they did not, I simply asked them to simply remove it.
I know how slow the processes can be in an NGO so I waited for 4 months to get a response .
I had registered on a Reverbnation(Largest site for bands and amateur independent artists in the world) some time back.Apart from connecting you with the world, it also ranks various artists.
It was a very pleasant surprise for me to see that I have been rated no 1 in India and no Β 19 in the world in the Category “Spoken Words” . Yes again, they might just be vanity numbers but they do make you feel good and motivate you o keep going.
Sadly my poetry or voice over or blogging does not earn me enough to quit my Day job yet …But who knows π
A big thanks to all who have supported me :). Couldn’t have done without you.
This is new. I am writing a movie review..Woow cant move away from rhyming Β ,,,can i?
Let me start by taking sides : I loved it :). Yes i loved it.
Beautiful picturization, amazing cinematography and the best part Ranbir kapur’s Acting, not to forget the ever enchanting music of AR rehman.
——-Spoiler alert-don’t read of you don’t wanna know the story—–
Ranbir Kapoor's different looks
At the end of the day its a love story. A love story that develops from friendship. They fall in love when they realise they dont have to pretend in front of each other. Haters can go to hell , i loved this part. You love to be with person with whom you don’t need to pretend , with whom you can share your dirty secrets, your fears, your wishes and basically be You. And if you find that person ,but go marry someone else, you are bound to miss it.Once you lived the free life you cant go back to pretension. And if you try ,let me say you are plain stupid
And thats the stupidity that this film revolves around, it depicts how the meteoric rise to fame also is not sufficient for a rock star to forget his love,to long for her. He can get any girl he wants but no he has already given his heart away. At the risk of sounding cheesy, he’s truly in love. His success is incomplete without that one person and he cant celebrate it. He cant enjoy the success he fought for all his life because his heart longs for someone. You cant enjoy your success if your heart is not with your head.Any amount of fame, power success
Nargis Fakhri and ranbir kiss
may not be sufficient
It also shows how his music flows from his torn heart, again something we all can relate to. When the heart cries the words come out.
The best part of this movie was ranbir. Ranbir you simply rock. The way he switched between the simpleton JJ to Jordan was superb. Those minute reactions, that anger ,those small triggers, the dejection, the playfulness;every part was played to perfection.
Rambi kapoors best performance till date
Yes there are various loopholes such as, rambir’s rise to fame seems a little too easy; ranbir’s sisters role is not well defined;some people might find the ending abrupt ,though i loved it,subtle and powerful. But all these can be ignored, no film is perfect, neither is this one.The film portrays what it wanted to portray :the yearning of two lovers even when things are difficult, the way it effects their lives and the way the boundries between right and wrong are blurred .
If i would have to give it points ,i will give 4/5. Yes worth a watch π
PS: NO I have not been paid to write this, i genuinely loved the movie and i am a Fan of ranbir’s acting now
